“They’re both sweet,” Mary Caroline said to Jane, once Will and Bran were out of earshot. “Who’s he trying to fool with the snotty Welshman act?”

Jane grinned. “It’s not an act. The good thing is that his superiority complex extends to doing the dishes his way.”

Mary Caroline grinned back. “Does that include the ones you hurl at him when he’s being a prat?”

“Prat?” echoed an incredulous voice from the doorway. “That’s not a Yankee word! Jane, one short semester and you’ve polluted her vocabulary beyond repair.”

“She’s Southern, not a Yankee,” Jane retorted. “Now where’s the cake?”
