Supporting characters. Also baddies.
Stantons
As a whole, a noisy, bustling family who're all very close, fairly no-nonsense and enjoy teasing each other. Musical, been in the community a long time. Like tradition and live on the outskirts of a village/town in Buckinghamshire.
Roger Stanton : Will's father. Comes from a large family (he's boy #7), works as a jeweller in town.
Max Stanton : At art school. Spends a large portion of his time thinking about his girlfriend.
Paul Stanton : Musician. Slight case of head in the clouds, probably the quietest in a noisy family, fond of going off and playing his flute. Rather perceptive.
James Stanton : youngest-but-one, used to share Will's room. Spends a large amount of time teasing the others. Amazing voice which is in the process of breaking but is predicted to be bloody gorgeous once it comes out the other side.
Barbara Stanton :
Mary Stanton :
Stephen Stanton : Technically the oldest of the Stanton boys (the first one died as a baby). Sailor, not often on leave, hero-worshipped by Will as the oldest and all-round upstanding example. No, really. Nice bloke, funny, gives great presents and loves his family. Like the rest of the family, fairly perceptive.
Light and Dark
Miss Greythorne
John Wayland Smith (plus wife)
The Lady
The Rider (later the Black Rider) : One of the Major Lords of the Dark. Nasty piece of work, fairly smooth, gets on with people who don't know what he is. Anyone who knows what he's like, he gives the creeps, since that's one of his main powers - his presence (and being on a horse, hence the name, especially if he's chasing or hunting you) creates fear. And loathing. (possibly even in Las Vegas) And general bad feeling.
The White Rider, aka Blodwen Rowlands : in Rider form, same powers as the Black Rider, except generally considered a bit meaner and spookier. As Blodwen, nice, sympathetic, caring, good listener, gives good advice, general impression of rosy cheeked, twinkly-eyed, jolly, flour on the hands hard-working shepherd's wife, etc, etc. Except. Er. That turned out to all be an act since she was undercover to keep an eye on Bran and get her hooks into him emotionally. No attempt to influence anyone, just create an emotional attachment and be there for him as an aunt-type.
Maggie Barnes : nickname Maggie the Witch-girl. Yes, this really should tell you something. Working at the farm when we first meet her, everyone knows she's bad news and wouldn't trust her as far as they can throw her. Originally sowed the seeds of doubt in Hawkin's mind after a spectacular piece of cluelessness on Merriman's part (nothing like risking someone's life just to make sure a book stays safe) and brought him over to the Dark. Tried to trap Will a few times. Not subtle in the slightest half the time and tries to over-reach her authority on a regular basis.
The Welsh lot
Owen Davies : Technically Bran's dad. Well, since he raised Bran from nearly new-born I'd say that counts. A good man, just a bit distant and a bit religious. (no, we're not talking brimstone and hellfire, just straight and narrow path at all times and preferably nothing that stinks of magic, please) Main job is shepherd, but does some work down the local church. As a young man, had the slight misfortune to come across Guinevere straight after she'd stumbled out of the time portal, she stayed with him for a few days, he fell head over heels, and then she vanished, leaving the baby and a note. It's fairly safe to say he never really got over her and tends to watch Bran for any signs of spookiness due to this.
Caradog Pritchard : Farmer, massive chip on his shoulder, can't control his temper and is basically a git. Tried to assault Gwen and has it in for Bran since he's Gwen's son.
Blodwen Rowlands : Nice woman, helped raise Bran. Please ignore her Lord of the Dark tendencies.
